The historic Fort DeRussy Beachfront Park is a great place to take your dog for an afternoon walk. You’ll also find areas with free games and activities like kite flying, ping pong or just lounging on the grass watching surfers catch waves at Waikiki Shoreline. Looking for more of a challenge? Head over to the ocean side where you can try stand-up paddleboard lessons in calm waters.
Another popular activity we enjoy while visiting Honolulu’s tourism district are exploring its culinary scene as well as taking in some of Hawaii’s cultural sites such as museums, tours and art galleries. From our hotel near Diamond Head (we recommend Hotel Renew), it was easy enough to get around by foot or bus.
In addition, we took a tour to see some of the islands’ volcano sites and it was well worth the trek. You can choose from tours that cover different times in history such as the Great Honolulu Fire or Pearl Harbor bombing tours (this is my personal favorite). If you’re looking for something more unique than what’s provided by tourism companies, go on an off-road adventure with Hawaii Forest & Trail Tours which takes travelers through Oahu’s backcountry areas. One day I’m sure I’ll be able to hike all over these beautiful trails!
As long as you have your activewear ready at all times and plenty of sunscreen handy too, there are so many ways you can enjoy Waikiki while vacationing here.
